Clarifications: The discovery and official information about this species date back to 2014. Current research could be subject to change. But they are solidly founded by international and national paleontologists.
Discovered in the Venezuelan Andes region, by a team of international and IVIC experts, led by the Venezuelan paleontologist Ascanio D. Rincon, Andrés Solórzano, Max C. Langer, etc. Tachiraptor admirabilis was a type of theropod dinosaur that lived at the beginning of the Jurassic period (Hettangian), near what is now the city of La Grita, (celebrated by the church of Santo Cristo de la Grita), state Táchira.
The #fossil is mainly composed of a right tibia and a left ischium, joining dental samples of #theropod discovered years before (possibly of the same species). Despite its name (admirable raptor of Táchira), it is not related to the dromaeosaurs (raptors), since the material and comparative elements relate the Tachiraptor to the group of Neotheropods, like dilophosaurus and cryolophosaurus, which it preceded. , which is why it is considered a possible "basal dilophosaurid".
It was a #predator somewhat longer than a modern dog, which by comparative anatomy is estimated to have dimensions between one and a half meters to nearly 2 meters long. It probably lived alone or in very small groups and will use its agility to hunt small animals or other dinosaurs similar to Laquintasaura venezuelae.
