Dunkleosteus lived about 240 million years ago and belongs to the Dinichthyidae family. There are at least ten different species of Dunkleosteus described so far and despite the fact that more recent research has decreased its length from about 6 to almost 3 meters. It remains one of the most imposing and dangerous armored fish of the Devonian period. They are mainly characterized by having an armored head and being carnivorous. The largest and best known of them is Dunkleosteus.
